Dr. Carl Wittwer, MD, PhD

carlwittwerv-cutouttemplateDr. Wittwer is a Professor of Pathology at the University of Utah, a Medical Director at ARUP, and a Director of BioFire Diagnostics. Focusing on new technology, he started molecular diagnostics at ARUP in 1994. With over 200 papers and 34 US patents, he is the primary inventor of the LightCycler® real-time PCR system with over 10,000 units placed worldwide by Roche. An Associate Editor of Clinical Chemistry since 2002, he directs the State of Utah Center of Excellence for “Homogeneous DNA Analysis.” In 2012 he became Board Chairman of BioFire until its sale to BioMerieux in 2014.
